Greenheart Farms Acquires High Quality Cyclamen Producer, Mesa Magic Nursery
January 2, 2008
We are pleased to announce that Mesa Magic Nursery, as of January 2, 2008, will become a division of Greenheart Farms, Inc., which is located a short 1.5 miles from the old Mesa Magic Nursery location.
This acquisition will accomplish two very important goals. First, we will be able to expand the production of high quality cyclamen liners using Greenheart’s advanced greenhouse technology. Second, we will introduce new product forms that will improve our customers’ bottom line. In fact, this spring we will introduce 72-cell, 128-cell, and 200-cell trays.
The previous owners, Larry and Dianne Adcock will be directing all aspects of cyclamen business and will utilize the same growing techniques that have produced the high quality cyclamen starters you have come to expect from Mesa Magic.
For sales inquiries into the Mesa Magic product line, please contact Timm Maguire at 805.481.2234 x 454 or e-mail at tmaguire@greenheartfarms.com.
Urban Farming Food Chain™ Creates 'Edible' Green Walls in Downtown Los Angeles
Vertical Gardens for Urban Community to Grow its Own Organic Food
LOS ANGELES -- July 21, 2008 -- Urban Farming, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end hunger in our generation, will establish four 'edible' green walls in Los Angeles' Downtown and Skid Row areas, enabling residents to grow and harvest their own fresh, organic produce in a time of great need.
The four walls are made up of a total of 180 panels growing approximately 4,000 fruit and vegetable plants. They launch the Urban Farming Food Chain project, connected to each other by intention and design, and will provide a model that Urban Farming will replicate across the country and abroad for growing food in urban neighborhoods, while also helping to lower the heat index in the fight against global warming.
Engineered by Green Living Technologies and designed by Elmslie Osler Architect, the Urban Farming Food Chain also creates opportunities for team building, skills-training and community involvement. This Urban Farming pilot project is partially funded by grants received from The Annenberg Foundation and from the Los Angeles Office of Community Beautification with additional donations from Warner Bros Entertainment, among other sponsors.
The Urban Farming Food Chain's formal launch and press event will take place on Friday, August 1st, with all project participants and guest speakers including Ed Begley, Jr. (actor/environmentalist) and Richard Lewis (actor/comedian/ Urban Farming Advisory Board), as well as a vertical garden installation in progress at the Weingart Center, and a walking tour to view a completed Food Chain wall at the Rainbow Apartments.
10:00 AM Friday, August 1st
The Weingart Center • 566 S. San Pedro St. Los Angeles, 90013
(Courtyard walk-in entrance on 6th Street between S. San Pedro St. and Crocker.)
Parking instructions: Attendants will be at the parking lot located on the south side of 6th street, between San Pedro St and Crocker St. They will direct you to available spaces in lots nearby.
For the past three months students and faculty at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's Sustainable Agriculture Resource Consortium and the Horticulture & Crop Science Department have monitored the growing process of thousands of starter plants donated by Greenheart Farms, which for this first season include: bell peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, tomatillos, strawberries, spinach, parsley, leeks, lavender, a variety of herbs and edible flowers.
During the week of Tuesday, July 29th to Friday, August 1st, the panels will be transported down from Cal Poly courtesy of Meyer Trucking, and installed at the four locations throughout the city. At this time, many of the plants in these panels will be nearly ready for harvest, and instructors will be on site to teach residents and students at the locations a variety of skills related to planting and harvesting the crops and maintaining the green wall systems.
Prior to the August 1st event, the press/media will have additional opportunities to watch the installation process and speak with project leaders and participants, although there will not be formal events at these locations.

Greenheart Farms, Inc. Acquires Tiny Petals Nursery
Popular Dee Bennett miniature roses will be added to the award winning Nor’East product catalog
Arroyo Grande, CA -- May 15, 2005 — Greenheart Farms, the owner of Nor’East Miniature Roses, today announced it has acquired Tiny Petals Nursery (www.tinypetalsnursery.com). Tiny Petals Nursery is the originator of many popular miniature rose varieties, including Jean Kenneally™, Irresistible™, Grace Seward and many more. Tiny Petals Nursery, located in Silver Springs Nevada, will transfer all production to Greenheart Farms’ state of the art product facility in Arroyo Grande, California by early July. A select number of Tiny Petals varieties will be available on the Nor’East website in late July.
“We are very excited to add Tiny Petals Miniature Roses to our Nor’East Miniature Rose line. Dee Bennett, the original owner of Tiny Petals, was a real pioneer in the miniature rose industry. This purchase will bring together two of the most popular miniature rose portfolios under one company — a real win for consumers and wholesale customers alike.” said Bill De Vor, Greenheart Farms Rose Production Manager. “The Greenheart Farms production facility in Arroyo Grande, California will allow us to produce these varieties in larger quantities and improve product availability year round.”
“We want to assure our loyal customers and friends that this is not an ending but a new beginning for the Dee Bennett roses, which they so love. Greenheart Farms intends to make a large number of Dee's creations commercially available and even continue to offer new introductions that were hybridized by this great lady. They want to keep her legacy alive. ,” said Carol Sparks, co-owner of Tiny Petals Nursery. “Greenheart Farms will begin to take mail orders for the Tiny Petals roses in late July. Hopefully, this short transitional period will not create any inconvenience for our customers. We also hope that you will give your loyalty to this fine company in the future.”
